Calibration gas is used to test and set the accuracy of gas detectors, monitors, and meters. Essentially the sensors on these units either vary over time or can die suddenly without warning the user. In order to keep the field people safe, you need to run a little gas over the unit each day to make sure it alarms properly. Every month or so you need to calibrate the sensors to adjust for zero and span drift.
